Gettin’ it done!

It has been a while.  Hello again 😊

We all prioritize based on what we can get done.  So, in the last 4 years since my last blog post, I’ve made a lot of decisions, prioritized, and accomplished what I set out to accomplish.  Along the way I had to put certain things on hold (including posting blog entries) prioritizing other things.  I might make blog posting easy, but it does require a lot of my thinking powers to pull my thoughts together.

I look at my life’s tasks as projects in my mind that I’m always planning and executing.  Some of these are small and simple and some of them are larger.  I have 1-week projects, 1-month projects, 6-month projects, and 1+ year projects.

For example,

  • 1 week: getting laundry done, learning a new recipe.
  • 1 month: sorting clothes for donation.
  • 6-month: getting a certification completed.
  • 1+ year: Finish building a house.

What I’ve learned is that if I am to finish any project, I must figure out a plan in my mind.  I’m not the type of person who just gets up to do it, there is mental preparation I must go through to accomplish any task.  How I do I go through the mental preparation?  Here is what works for me:

  • Step 1: I ask myself, “Is this a priority?”
  • Step 2: I determine which timeline this is for? 1 week, 1 month, etc.
  • Step 3A:  For the smaller duration goals, I spend about 5 minutes while having my morning coffee and figure out what do I need to accomplish for that day for a specific project.

Step 3B: For the long-term goals , I usually plan those at the end of day before bed, so I have more time to think about it while having my chamomile tea before sleeping.  It really helps when you are thinking at night because you get to reflect on the day; that is the time to get ideas, plans, sparks (sometimes even when I’m sleeping ).  I always have something to write beside my bed, be it a simple pen and paper or my laptop to jot down thoughts as they occur to me..

Step 4: For things that are not a priority, I just put them on some back burner to come back to later.  And something not being a priority doesn’t mean that the project means less to me, it just means that I have to delay it to give it the attention it deserves.  It can wait….they sit in my notebook waiting to be worked on.

Having said that, I had to delay my blog posts while I was accomplishing all the other things that were more urgent in my world.   But now that I’m back, I have something special coming soon (inspired by some of my closest friends…)
